Case Study: Attracting Green Champions for the London Fire Brigade network
London Fire Brigade wanted to increase their Green Champion network from 136 Champions, out of a total workforce of 7000, with varying levels of activity and ability.
Green Champions were responsible for:
- being the first point of contact for staff with questions and comments regarding green issues
- communicating ideas for improvements to the Environment Team and reporting on progress
- motivating and enthusing colleagues to act sustainably and run short sessions for colleagues about green issues
Ampleo first set about understanding what the existing Green Champions were doing. We put together some inspirational case studies to attract new recruits and give them ideas for their role. We also developed an online survey for potential Champions, which asked them questions to assess their influence and leadership capability for the role. The Environment Team was able to identify the best people to become Green Champions, and they now have over 200 Champions working effectively across the organisation.
